Licensing Parents?
“Mom, we gotta buy a hybrid!”
Recently an article appeared in The Wall Street Journal titled “Inconvenient Youths”, which described the dilemma faced by some parents when confronted by their persistent little munchkins parroting the current scam having to do with the environment and global warming.
Some experiences are laughable and some are sad, but they’re all real. We’re talking about kids ranging in age from 4 to 8 coming home from school filled with hype and propaganda, compliments of the environmental wackos who are today’s crop of gloom and doomers. So we have political propagandists using the education system to enlist school children by brainwashing them with their pseudo-scientific version of a pending apocalypse. They are bold and make no bones about indoctrinating kids who have no means of defense and so parrot what they hear from teachers who are supposed to be teaching them how to read and write, add and subtract.
In one case a couple spends an extra $15,000 on solar panels for a new roof thanks to their 8 year old son who had “acted” in a school play about “global warming”. This is a concerted effort to enlist children to foster unproven theories about the environment, which are promoted by some highly questionable people and businesses. Wow, what a shock. And in a way it is, because of the way children are being manipulated. For example, the article describes a global warming documentary, “Arctic Tale”, in which a child actor tells kids, “If your Mom and Dad buy a hybrid car, you’ll make it easier for polar bears to get around.” Damn! Who knew polar bears are dependent on hybrid cars to move from one ice floe to another?
One California elementary school (where else) assigns environmental activities for the kid’s families, like clearing the coils behind a refrigerator to make it more energy efficient, when we all know a much better idea is to stop filling those refrigerators with high sugar snacks, high sodium frozen dinners, waffles, and sugar laden soft drinks. But these enviro parents wouldn’t think of “depriving” their super charged little darlings. Then you have Hollywood’s Laurie Davis, a producer of Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth”, plus her own book on global warming telling kids to ask Mom to buy recycled-fiber toilet paper. Gee, you think anyone is making money on this stuff? We’ll get back to this Hollywood Queen in a moment.
From the principal of Bacich Elementary School in Kentfield, CA: “We have a responsibility to educate our children” she says, which begs the question – why don’t you? That would be preferable to indoctrinating them with unproven, bogus theories about so-called global warming, which is doing a terrible disservice to the kids and the community. Who put these characters in charge anyway? Parents are you paying any attention? Do you care?
About that Prius. It cost the kid’s parents an extra $5,500 to buy the hybrid, and the kid prefers it to his father’s Jaguar. Why? Because “you’re not hurting any animals” says the kid. Just another example of “educating” the children - this little bright bulb doesn’t know the difference between an automobile and a jungle animal! But no modern, self-respecting, “sensitive” parent would dare risk hurting the little tyke’s self esteem by explaining that difference – and don’t count on his California teacher to do it for them.
The article continued with additional examples of enviro-wacko extremism in the cause of highly debatable, dubious, unproven theories. And it’s going on all over the country. But who will challenge the leader of this movement, our own lovable Al Gore, who claimed to have invented the Internet? Al is right in there with some Wall Street biggies involved in his carbon offset company separating more than a few naïve fools from their money as they line up to give it to him. What a country!
Back to Hollywood’s Laurie Davis, a real enviro queen. The Science & Public Policy Institute, a nonprofit outfit in Washington, issued a press release stating that Davis’s book “is intentionally designed to propagandize unsuspecting schoolchildren who don’t have enough knowledge to know what is being done to them.” Hello, isn’t that a clue for parents? . Don’t they have a responsibility to guide and inform their children with the facts so they are not victims of agenda based politics…especially in grammar school? This causes one to wonder if it just might make sense to license parents before they get into the reproductive stage of their lives. Hey, it wouldn’t hurt.
Now if Laurie Davis were truly sincere she would start a national campaign in all grammar schools instructing children to immediately STOP!! using toilet paper at all. After all, they have two perfectly good hands, and it’s the method used in any number of third world countries. If it works for them, why not us? However, we should also expect Ms. Davis to lead by example and call on all her teacher friends to follow that example by giving up toilet paper forever. How about a show of hands on this one?
A few days later, another article ran in the Journal reminding us of the 1960s films that showed images of people in New York City in the year 2000 wearing gas masks to avoid poison gasses floating in the air; Paul Ehrlich bogus book, “The Population Bomb” that gave England a 50/50 chance of making into the 21st century and Rachel Carson’s “Silent Spring”, which was directly responsible for the deaths of millions based on her alarmist screed about DDT.
Maybe life in the US would be just a tad less stressful, especially for kids, if the Hollywood elitists and political con men all got real jobs and started doing something worthwhile with their lives. The economist Julian Simon really nailed all of these characters and their nonsense with one word – “GLOBALONEY”.
And that’s a Reality Check.
